Chambishi Copper Smelter Limited (CCS), a holding subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNMC), recently handed over several corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects in Lubuto ward, Kalulushi District, Copperbelt Province, Zambia.
Joseph Phiri, commissioner of Kalulushi District, attended the handover ceremony.
A Zambian official and an executive of Chambishi Copper Smelter Limited (CCS), a holding subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNMC), jointly cut the ribbon at the handover ceremony for several corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects implemented by CCS in Lubuto ward, Kalulushi District, Copperbelt Province, Zambia.
He highly praised CCS's long-term positive contributions to Kalulushi District's economic and social development as well as the local people's livelihoods.
He commended the company for precisely addressing key local livelihood needs and showing a strong sense of responsibility toward the local communities.
These CSR initiatives launched by CCS align closely with strategic goals promoted by Zambia's New Dawn Government, including free compulsory education and public health improvements, reinforcing the company's image as a responsible corporate citizen, Phiri noted.
Since commencing production in October 2009, CCS has upheld the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, and remained committed to mutual benefit, win-win cooperation, and common development.
The company respects local culture and actively integrates into the local communities, not only generating economic value but also giving back to the locals through tangible CSR initiatives.
In 2024, CCS invested over 6 million Zambian Kwacha ($259,971.98) to improve local education and healthcare conditions and to support traditional cultural activities.
The projects handed over this time represent the company's key CSR initiatives for 2024, including a newly constructed teaching building at Lubuto Secondary School, a staff housing building at Kalulushi Secondary School, and the renovated maternity ward at Kalulushi General Hospital.
These projects are expected to effectively alleviate the shortage of local educational facilities and improve local medical services, making it more convenient for locals to access education and healthcare services.

Looking ahead, CCS will continue to uphold its development philosophy of "being deeply rooted in Africa, committed to benefiting local communities, and acting as a responsible corporate citizen."
Standing ready to actively respond to the Zambian government's CSR plans as always, the company will keep increasing investment in local education, healthcare, and infrastructure, among other fields.
It is going to carry out more CSR projects in Kalulushi District this year, including the construction of a new teaching building at Chibuluma Community School, the renovation of the department of gynaecology and obstetrics and main corridor at Kalulushi General Hospital, and the building of three pedestrian bridges in Chambishi town, contributing to local development with concrete actions.
